Quality Team Development (QTD)

Consider it for your practice, as well as being a useful process in itself it will help provide evidence of team working for re-validation

Enclosed is a copy of the self assessment form which can be downloaded from the QTD section of the RCGP website

Quality Team Development is an initiative developed by the RCGP which offers a supportive approach to clinical governance.  It enables primary care organisations (PCOs) and primary health care teams to identify developmental needs and also facilitates the sharing of good practice within the PCO.

QTD uses self-assessment, patient questionnaires and peer review to enable practices to reflect on the quality of service they offer to patients and on how they work together as a team.  This enables practice teams to identify areas of good practice as well as areas for improvement, and also identifies development priorities.

The process of QTD is as follows:

The PCO registers for QTD and practices that wish to sign up to be involved in the process

The PCO identifies visitors from those practices that are signed up to QTD
The RCGP works with the PCO to train the QTD visitors

The RCGP work with the PCO to train visitors

Primary health care teams assess themselves against the QTD criteria

A patient questionnaire is administered

The PCO analyse the results from the patient questionnaire

Multi-disciplinary teams of a GP, a practice manager and a practice nurse visit each practice to aid them in identifying good practice and developmental needs

Practice development plans for each practice are written, providing the PCO with information on developmental priorities

PCOs identify what type of support is needed by practices and provide support to help practices meet their developmental needs

The process is cyclical, with the practice self-assessment, patient questionnaire, visit and development plan stages being repeated every two to three years
