HEALTHCARE LIBRARY SERVICES IN SUFFOLK

Access to up-to-date and accurate information is crucial to the delivery of high quality healthcare. Our libraries are an integral part of the local clinical governance infrastructure and support:

Core Services

All libraries have skilled staff who can help in your search for evidence. Most libraries also offer:

• a range of computer software
• photocopying facilities
• study space

Electronic Resources

Libraries provide easy access to a growing collection of databases, full-text electronic journals and other resources.  These are available at any time, from work or home, via the Internet.

Ask your local healthcare library for a password. 

Databases include:

• AMED (Allied & complementary therapies)
• BNI (British Nursing Index)
• CINAHL (Nursing & allied Health)
• DH-DATA (Health management)
• EMBASE (Biomedicine with an emphasis on pharmacology)
• MEDLINE (Biomedicine)
• PSYCINFO (Clinical & applied psychology)

From the databases there are links to the articles in hundreds of e-journals.

Training

Libraries provide FREE training in using the databases and other electronic resources, including the National Electronic Library for Health and the Cochrane Library. Formats include on-line tutorials, hands-on workshops and training sessions tailored for staff groups or individuals.

Ask your local healthcare library for details of training currently offered.

Alternatively, contact Andy Parrett (at West Suffolk Hospital Library): he is the Library Skills Training Facilitator for Norfolk and Suffolk and organizes many of the training sessions mentioned above.

If getting to the library is difficult, training can be arranged in the workplace.
